HUSKISSON
Located in the coastal township of Huskisson, this extensive home transformation demonstrates how thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship can completely reimagine an existing residence. By retaining part of the original home while introducing a contemporary architectural design, this project balances practicality, sustainability and modern family living, creating a home that feels entirely new while making the most of the existing structure.
Architectural Design
Rather than beginning with a complete knockdown rebuild, this project embraced the opportunity to retain part of the existing home and utilise the original setback provisions. This approach allowed us to maximise the site's potential while creating a home that was thoughtfully tailored to the clients' lifestyle and long-term vision.
One of the most significant design elements was the complete reconstruction of the roof framing, allowing the designer to achieve an entirely new street presence. The transformed façade gives the home a refined contemporary appearance, making it almost unrecognisable from the original residence while preserving the advantages of the existing footprint.
Quality Craftsmanship & Construction
Every renovation presents its own unique challenges, and this project required careful planning to seamlessly integrate new construction with the existing home.
A feature of this build was the installation of PVC windows, a product we had not previously worked with. Their exceptional acoustic performance was immediately noticeable, significantly reducing external noise while improving the home's thermal comfort and energy efficiency.
Blending new construction with the existing structure required careful attention to detail, ensuring every transition felt cohesive and intentional throughout the finished home.
Reimagining the Living Spaces
The transformation extended far beyond the exterior. The internal layout was carefully reconfigured to create a home that better suited the owners' lifestyle, improving functionality, natural light and the connection between living spaces.
One of the standout features is the alfresco area, where three oversized skylights flood the space with natural light. Throughout the day, sunlight moves across the living areas, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere while strengthening the connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
The result is a home that feels bright, spacious and perfectly suited to relaxed coastal living.
The Finished Home
This Huskisson renovation is a testament to the value of thoughtful design, collaboration and quality craftsmanship. By reimagining the existing home rather than starting again, the project delivers a contemporary architectural residence that honours the original structure while providing a functional, light-filled home designed for modern family living.
